FORT WAYNE, Ind (Indiana's NewsCenter)-He's run for President three times, served as an ambassador during the Reagan administration, and tonight, Doctor Alan Keyes is taking on the University of Notre Dame where he's hoping to be arrested.
It's all in reaction to President Obama speaking at Notre Dame's graduation and the school's plans to give President Obama an honorary doctorate.
Doctor Keyes stopped in Fort Wayne Thursday, to relay his message, urging pro life supporters around the country to join him as, what he calls, a witness against Notre Dame's betrayal of un-born children. Keyes is not at odds with Bishop D'Arcy or the Catholic Church, but rather Father Jenkins of Notre Dame. He cites Bishop D'Arcy's recent statement pointing out that the University of Notre Dame should not have invited President Obama because: "The Catholic Community and Catholic Institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of the Church's fundamental moral principles. Keyes says he will protest until the school retracts it's invitation to President Obama or he's arrested.
Dr. Alan Keyes says "It seems to me, that in a deeper and more profound sense, even in the scandal that rocked the church some time back, we have a scandal now being given at Notre Dame. People want to shut their eyes to it, they want to act as if maybe it should be tolerated for the sake of not disturbing or drawing attention to what is being done."
In a statement released Thursday, the diocese says "Bishop D'Arcy has made it clear that he does not approve of those who are coming into the diocese to disturb the Notre Dame graduation or to drive a wedge between the Bishop of the Diocese and Notre Dame."
