FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--A local superstar has pulled out of Fort Wayne, headed for points west. Steam engine 765 left its New Haven headquarters for North Judson, Indiana this morning. The locomotive will run passenger excursions this weekend from North Judson to Lacrosse, Indiana and back again. The engine was overhauled by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, and officials say this weekends excursions will help clear the way for similar excursions originating out of Fort Wayne.
“What’s good about these trips is that the locomotive will become qualified to operate with Amtrak,” says Historical Society member Kelly Lynch. “And under Amtrak’s insurance and guidance we can operate main line passenger trips just about anywhere in the world.”
765’s excursions this weekend will originate at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum. Trips will run three times daily May 23rd-May 25th.
