$1.7 Million Returned To Area Residents

By Scott Sarvay

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - More than $1.7 million was returned to Allen County residents this year as part of the Earned Income Tax Credit Program.

The program is led by the volunteer center at RSVP and the United Way of Allen County.

Residents earning less than $42,000 a year may qualify for the program, and can be eligible to get back more than $4,500 in tax credits.

If you're not sure if you qualify for the program, it's not too late to find out and earn tax credits from last year's taxes.

United Way of Allen County Pres. & CEO Jerry Peterson says, “Many people who came in did not know that they were eligible and there are many more and the reality is we'd like to say that they still are able to file an amendment to last year's taxes. And so they may want to check in with any number of the social service agencies in town who could help them know whether or not they might be eligible.”

United Way leaders say more than six million dollars in tax credits go unclaimed each year in Allen County.
