June 18, 2010 Updated May 27, 2009 at 11:45 AM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A Burmese refugee group left Fort Wayne this morning, to walk to New York City. The six refugees are making the pilgrimage in honor of a recently imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize winner, who has pleaded her innocence on charges of violating her house arrest. The group will walk 10-miles a day, ending at the United Nations. Burmese Refugee Min Oo says, “Now we are marching to the United Nations and showing other nations that we are still trying to fight for our country to be free peacefully.” They will demonstrate at the UN for two weeks in September, and will then start a nine-day hunger strike to plead for the release of all Burmese people.
