FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - More than $250,000 economic boost may be coming to the Summit City next spring.
Officials with several Fort Wayne venues, including the Memorial Coliseum and Spiece Fieldhouse, have put in bids to host the state girls basketball championship.
IHSAA officials visited the city Friday. They say they liked what they saw, including a rent-free facility for the games.
“The Friday night before the competition, Spiece Fieldhouse and Vera Bradley have stepped up to organize the fan fest,” Convention and Visitors Bureau spokesman Dan O’Connell said. “It will help celebrate some of the fun things including the heritage of basketball in our community. Between the fan fest and a free building, we believe we've put a very competitive bid in.”
IHSAA officials say the winning city will be announced by the end of June.
