MENTONE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - After two days on the run, a man wanted for murder in Illinois was arrested in Kosciusko County this weekend.
Police captured 27 year old Brian Lee Garrett in a wooded area near Mentone around 7:30 Sunday evening.
Officials say a female acquaintance had dropped Garrett off in the area near State Road 19, then tipped police to his location.
Garrett is accused of stabbing and killing two men, Robert Wood and Ralph Elsey, at a home in Sheldon, Illinois last Friday. Garrett had roomed with the victims, but was apparently kicked out. Officials say that led to the stabbings. The female acquaintance who tipped police to Garrett's whereabouts last night witnessed one of the stabbings.
Garrett and the woman then fled Illinois to Indiana, first staying Saturday night in Remington before ending up in Kosciusko County. Police believe Garrett was travelling to Warsaw where his grandmother lived. But when he couldn't find her, he tried to camp near Mentone.
Garrett is being held in the Kosciusko County jail awaiting extradition to Illinois.
