Woman Drowns On Dallas Lake

By Natalie Hess

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A woman drowned while playing frisbee with her dog at a sandbar on Dallas Lake Saturday afternoon.

LaGrange County DNR officers say 41-year-old Kelly Smith swam out to deeper water to recover the frisbee she was using to play with the family dog when she began struggling to swim for an unknown reason and went under the surface of the water.

A local resident dove down in approximately 12- to 16-feet waters and recovered Smith. She was transported to shore to await an ambulance. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Autopsy reports rule Smith died from asphyxiation due to drowning. Indiana Conservation officers and the LaGrange County Coroner's office are continuing an investigation.
