By Scott Sarvay

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A LaGrange County grand jury has indicted a Topeka woman on two charges of "neglect of a dependent." In the case of a 16-month-old girl who died in March.

The LaGrange County prosecutor says Alissa Guernsey was in 31-year-old Christy Shaffer's custody when she died. But would not confirm the toddler’s death and Shaffer's indictments were related.

Two of Guernsey's siblings and four of Shaffer's children have been removed from the home and are in the custody of family members.

Shaffer was arrested and has since posted $20,000 bond.

If convicted, she faces up to 28-years behind bars.
