June 18, 2010 Updated Jul 1, 2009 at 4:22 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) -As the clock was ticking, Indiana lawmakers were able to pass a new 2-year spending plan. Both the House and the Senate agreed upon and passed the $27.8 billion budget that Governor Mitch Daniels says leaves the state in good fiscal shape, better shape then what was being proposed in the regular legislative session this past April. Governor Daniels says, “By having this special session, we saved over $700 million versus April, what they were working on when things ended in April. We saved over a billion dollars from the house budget that they passed here in the special session. So, taxpayers got a return of between four and five thousand to one." By the way the special session cost taxpayers an estimated $160,000.
