INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The process to pass Indiana’s new budget required tough concessions from both Republicans and Democrats.
But Republicans are relieved the negotiations left the state's billion-dollar surplus intact.
Governor Mitch Daniels had pushed hard for maintaining a sizeable rainy day fund, claiming it was necessary to safeguard the state against falling tax revenues.
Fort Wayne lawmaker Randy Borror felt the same way.
Borror says, "You always like to spend money if you're a legislator, uh, but quite frankly, these times just...you can't do that."
The budget was signed into law Tuesday night, right before the deadline to pass it, keeping state government services from shutting down.
