FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The dry weather lately may have people thinking mosquito season is over.
That, unfortunately, is not the case.
Good news, though: the dry weather is keeping mosquito numbers low and no cases of West Nile virus have been reported locally this year.
The possibility of West Nile virus, however is still around.
David Fiess with the Allen County Dept. of Health says, “The mosquitoes that can carry West Nile Virus, the culex species. We've started our trapping program two weeks ago, and we're finding the numbers are starting to increase, which increases the chance of West Nile Virus being transmitted from bird to bird, and then possibly to humans.”
Officials say to wear bug spray to prevent mosquito bites.
And remove any stagnant water from your property. So they can't lay their eggs.
