One Injured After Moped, Car Collide

By Natalie Hess

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - An Angola moped driver was airlifted by Samaritan helicopter after his bike struck the side of a Saturn car that pulled out in front of him near Crooked Lake Saturday night.

Joshua Wilson, 21, was driving south on County Road 200 West, approaching Crooked Lake Lane 101 and County Road 200 North, when a gray 1995 Saturn pulled out on front of him, according to the Steuben County Sheriff's office.

The 19-year-old driver, William Neely, was traveling east shortly after 10 p.m. on Crooked Lake Lane 101 and attempting to cross the four-lane highway and reach CR 200 N in his car, according to the sheriff's department. Neely did not see the moped and pulled out into the intersection in front of its path, he told officers.

Wilson's moped struck the left rear door of the passenger car. He was airlifted from the scene to an area hospital, where he was treated for a laceration to the mouth, sholder pain and back pain.

Officers say Wilson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and Neely was not wearing a seatbelt.

Skies were clear, and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash, police say.

Angola City Police, Steuben County EMS, Angola Fire Department, Samaritan helicopter and Steuben County Commission are assisting with the investigation.
