Court Upholds Elimination Of Indiana Township Office

By Scott Sarvay

INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Indiana court of appeals has rejected the Huntington Township assessor's challenge to a state law that eliminated most township assessor offices across the state.

The court agreed with a Huntington County court decision that found state lawmakers had the legal right to eliminate the elected offices in midterm.

Huntington Township Assessor Joan Stoffel had argued that the state constitution protected township assessors from such actions before their terms expired.
