Huntington Coroner Says Man Shot Himself

(Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Huntington County coroner says it appears the Mount Etna man who was suspected of burning down his house, and two other structures on the property died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the corner, 34-year-old Barton Thompson was shot multiple times, but it appears he did take his own life. On Sunday, firefighters were called to his Mount Etna home, when they arrived they noticed the house, and two barns were on fire. One firefighter thought he heard what he believed to be gunfire and called police for back up. That was the last authorities had seen Thompson until early Monday morning, when police say he began shooting at them, they returned gunfire, and Thompson was later found dead. Toxicology tests are being conducted to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
