By Scott Sarvay

June 18, 2010 Updated Jul 14, 2009 at 5:19 PM EST COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Indiana's top educator stopped in Columbia City Tuesday speaking to members of the rotary club. Superintendent of Public Instruction Doctor Tony Bennett talked about his plans to have 90-percent of Hoosier students passing the I-Step exam by 2012 and the need for more parents to be involved with their children's education. Bennett acknowledges that a delayed budget has left a lot of work to be done before school begins in august. Bennett says, “I know the DLGF worked very hard to change some budget deadlines and we're working with school corporations to get them that information and we're going to work very hard with them in terms of their budget workshops so that it has as little affect as possible.” Doctor Bennett says Indiana schools, when compared to many other states, are much better off financially.
