Unemployment Claims Drop

By Scott Sarvay

UNDATED (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits dropped last week.

However, Labor Department officials say it's not a reflection of improving economic conditions but problems adjusting for temporary shutdowns at General Motors and Chrysler plants.

New applications for unemployment insurance plunged by a seasonally adjusted 47,000 to 522,000; the lowest level since early January.
