BEDFORD, Ind. (AP) - Investigators have determined that an
electrical problem caused a fire that gutted a southern Indiana
church.
Bedford Fire Chief Scott Gillespie says the blaze at the Central
Church of Christ was traced to an interior wall of a second-floor
closet and has been ruled accidental.
He says what caused the malfunction hadn't been determined but
that church members knew of no previous problems with the
electrical system.
The fire broke out early July 9, spreading to the sanctuary's
attic and roof. The sanctuary's roof collapsed, but church leaders
hope to salvage a portion of the building that includes a lobby,
rest rooms and a classroom.
