"Ethanol Flash-over" At IPFW, Two Students Burned

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Two students at IPFW are injured in what officials say was an "ethanol flash-over" in a small section of one of the dental labs in the Biology Department in the IPFW Science Building.

According to IPFW Communications Director Susan Alderman, the students were working at the time in the lab without instructor supervision.

The male student extuinguished the flames using a nearby fire extingisher. He suffered minor burns and has been treated at IPFW. The female student is said to have first and second-degree burns to her hands and face and was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center's burn unit for treatment .

There was no damage reported to the lab. There has been no indivication of what triggered what the Fort Wayne Fire Department characterized as a "small flash fire."
