DECATUR, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Residents in northeast Indiana have stepped up to help several dozen malnourished and homeless horses in Decatur.
More than 100-people attended a fundraiser at the Adams County Fairgrounds Sunday.
Money was collected to cover expenses needed to care for 37-horses that police removed from a Decatur property.
Ever since, volunteers have cared for the horses at the fairgrounds.
Barn Manager Cindy Marckel says, “We've had to buy a little bit of hay and we've had to pay for bedding so that we could bed the stalls. The biggest cost I think is going to be to repair the barn because when they first came in they literally ate the stalls.”
Foster homes have been found for half the horses.
If you're interested in adopting any of the horses, call the Adams County Jail (260) 724-7141.
