MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University researchers are heading into the woods for a tour that will include a close-up look at the damage that deer can inflict on woodland areas.

Staff from Purdue's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources will lead a Nov. 7 bus tour that will visit south-central Indiana's Morgan-Monroe State Forest.

Tour members will tromp into the woods to see firsthand the effects of deer browsing on plants and how they effect tree regeneration. Participants will also see evidence of how various timber harvesting strategies impact plants and animals.

Speakers on the tour, which costs $5 per person, will also discuss Purdue's role in a long-term forest management study at the park.
