Washington House To Be Resurrected

By Scott Sarvay

June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 2, 2009 at 5:34 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A drug and alcohol treatment program that had drifted off the radar is ready to be resurrected in a familiar location. The past couple of years a church had been operating out of the old Washington House drug treatment building near Rockhill Park, because the agency didn't have the resources to stay in business. Now, Allen County Community Corrections has secured a state grant in excess of $600,000 to cover all costs for getting things up and running again. Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters says, “That was one of the conditions up front, that there be no other tax dollars that go towards it. There's some renovations that are going to have to occur right up front, um, to get the building worthy, and community corrections is going to also pay for that." The deed to the property should be in the county's hands by the end of the week. The plan is to start steering offenders to the center by the first of the year.
