WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Some Wells County residents will vote Tuesday whether to raise property taxes to help the Southern Wells school district.
The referendum would raise $300,000 a-year for the district's general funds.
School officials say they need the money or they'll be forced to cut teachers, freeze wages and make other cuts.
Polls are open until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
If the referendum passes, property taxes in the district would go up $61 per $100,000 of a home's assessed valuation.
Southern Wells is one of seven Indiana school districts to pose school building or tax questions on the ballot.
