INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Some female juvenile inmates have been transferred from a state detention center in Indianapolis to one in Madison as part of a move to make better use of prison space.
The girls moved from the former Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility into the new Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility in southeastern Indiana on Tuesday.
They will be housed in existing buildings on the Madison State Hospital campus, where the Madison Correctional Facility for women is also located.
Inmates from the Indiana Women's Prison near downtown Indianapolis are expected to begin moving into the former juvenile facility later this month.
The Indiana Department of Correction said the moves will help create bed space while saving the state money.
