Maplecrest Extension Project, Bids Below Estimate

By Scott Sarvay

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - It looks like it will cost Allen County about $16 million "less" to build the Maplecrest Road extension.

Construction bids for the project connecting Lake Avenue south to Indiana-930 in New Haven. Came in below estimates.

A local firm submitted what appears to be the lowest bid at $28.7 million.

Additional costs would put the total at $38 million.

But that's far below the projected cost of $53 million.

The project will include building the four-lane road, with four bridges over railroad tracks and the Maumee River.

It could be complete by the fall of 2012.
