FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Contractors were busy Thursday repairing part of Fort Wayne's levee system near where a major road collapse occurred in September.
Crews Thursday morning added dirt along the St. Joseph River, building up a section of earthen dike that had significantly settled.
City Public Works officials thoroughly inspected the levee, wondering if it had anything to do with the street failure on Spy Run Avenue that forced traffic detours for several days.
All drainage lines under the levee there checked out in good condition.
Fort Wayne Public Works Director Bob Kennedy says, “Not too unusual. We had a similar pair last year off the Tecumseh Boulevard area, so, it's something that comes with the annual maintenance of our levee system here in Fort Wayne."
Kennedy says it's likely we'll never know for sure what triggered the Spy Run road collapse.
