FORT HOOD, Texas (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A Lafayette native is among the 30 people injured in THURSDAY'S FORT Hood shooting.

Nathan Hewitt's uncles say one bullet grazed the soldier's hip and a second went through the 26-year-old's calf in the shooting that killed 13 people.

Hewitt was in a post medical center receiving vaccinations when he heard gunshots ringing out.

Nathan Hewitt says, "And then I tried to get people out with me, as I saw a way to get out. There was people hurt worse than I was, so, I was trying to help them out before I worried about myself. Pray for the ones that didn't make it, and the ones that are hurt worse than I am."

Hewitt, who was born and raised in Lafayette, is being treated at a Fort Hood area hospital.

And late word Friday night is that 32-year-old Staff-Sergeant Justin DeCrow of Plymouth died in the shooting at Fort Hood.
