AUBURN, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - 19 year old Alison Lesch of Auburn faces an attempted murder charge after police say she left her infant in a trash bin.

Lesch was arrested around 11 Sunday night, about 9 hours after her baby girl was found in a dumpster at the Forest Pointe Apartment complex on 19th street.

The baby was likely only a few hours old when police say Lesch placed her in a plastic garbage bag then left the bag in a dumpster near her home.

A woman discovered the child crying around 1:15 PM Sunday, then called authorities. The girl was then hospitalized for care, and is now in protective custody with DeKalb County's Division of Family and Children.

Lesch is being held without bond pending her first court appearance.

Indiana does have a Safe Haven law which seeks to discourage infant abandonments by letting new parents take their babies to hospitals, police stations or fire stations without fear of retibution.
