June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 13, 2009 at 6:26 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Fire units responded shortly before ten this morning to a fire at the General Motors Truck Assembly Plant in southwest Allen County. No one was injured in the small fire that began in the remote off-line weld check operation in the body shop of the plant, where the popular GM Silverado is assembled. The plant's in-house fire response team was able to quickly douse the fire, but Southwest Allen County Fire District, Aboite Township Fire District and the Roanoke Fire Department responded in the event they'd be needed. "Once we arrived, most of the fire had been extenguished by the sprinkler system and by security personnel so it was basically an overhaul situation for us so it didn't take ver long at all", said Southwest Allen County Fire Chief Don Patnoude. The all-clear was sounded at 10:30 and workers returned to their jobs. General Motors and the Southwest Allen County Fire Department are working together to pinpoint the exact cause of the fire. Fire chief Don Patnoude said the last major fire at the plant was ten years ago.
