Board of Public Works Sets Goal To Have Stormwater & Sewer Master Plan

By Scott Sarvay

June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 18, 2009 at 5:32 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - There is some progress on a comprehensive plan to better deal with stormwater and sewer issues in downtown Fort Wayne. The Board of Public Works today said "yes" to spending $327,000 to hire V.S. Engineering. The firm will work with city staff to study ways to reduce stormwater run-off and deal with overflow problems. The ultimate goal is to put together a downtown stormwater and sewer master plan. Stormwater Program Manager Anne Marie Smrchek says, “It'll provide direction for new development coming in, for our redevelopment bringing businesses in, so they know right up front what we're going to be looking for." It's hoped the master plan can be completed by late 2010. The city wants a roadmap established before new sewer interceptor lines must be run through downtown by 2019. It's believed city council must approve the expenditure to hire the sewer engineering firm.
