Meijer Prepares For Crowd At Palin Book Signing

By Jeff Neumeyer

June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 18, 2009 at 6:08 PM EST FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- A Meijer's Department Store in Northeast Fort Wayne is preparing for what could be an onslaught of customers looking for a chance to meet a big star in the world of politics. Sarah Palin didn't get elected Vice-President, but she figures to be a huge hit at an event here in town on Thursday. Palin will only be in the city a short time to sign copies of her new book, but the possibility of getting to meet her up close and personal is expected to draw supporters like a magnet. The Meijer at Interstate 469 and State Road 37 will host the former Alaska Governor between noon and three p-m Thursday, as Palin is trying to spur sales of her new book entitled, "Going Rogue". The first thousand qualifying customers in line for a wristband earn the chance to have up to two copies of the book signed by John McCain's running mate in the last presidential election. Meijer anticipates a big overflow crowd. Pat Mead/Meijer Manager: " It'll actually create some excitement, obviously, having somebody come in to do a book signing and I think there is a very large interest in the community to see her, so I think it'll be good for the community." Martha Barrow/Palin Fan: " I like her, I think she's a down to earth person, just a family person and I think she can do just as good a job as the men do, maybe better." If you want Palin to sign one of her books for you, you need to follow some rules. Your copy of the book has to be purchased at a Meijer store, and you then need to bring the receipt and book back on Thursday before ten a.m., and hope to be one of the lucky one thousand chosen. The store will not publish the time you need to arrive to get in line, hoping to avoid a jammed lobby through the overnight leading up to the signings. The store got an extra delivery of the books on Wednesday, to make sure it has enough copies on hand for customers on Thursday. The book is rekindling ill feelings between John McCain and Palin. The McCain camp has called it “self-serving fiction”, “petty and pathetic”, but folks at Meijer say copies are selling hot and heavy right now.
