Small Town Library in Indiana Gets Top Rating

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. (AP) - A national magazine has rated a small town library in northern Indiana one of the nation's best public libraries.

The New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library was named a "Five-Star Library" in Library Journal's latest national ratings of public libraries.

The magazine says its system rated 7,268 public libraries based on 2007 circulation, patron visits, program attendance and public Internet use.

Top libraries are rated with three, four or five stars. A total of 258 libraries across the nation received star ratings.

New Carlisle is a town of about 1,700 residents some 13 miles west of South Bend. Its library opened in 2002 and serves people in LaPorte and St. Joseph counties.
