Man Who Fatally Hit 2 Girls Gets 10 Days In Jail

(AP) - A northern Indiana man who admitted having marijuana in his system when his car fatally struck two young girls will spend 10 days in jail. St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Richard McCormick sentenced 56-year-old Leroy Hoover to 60 days in jail Thursday with 50 days suspended. He also ordered Hoover to take substance abuse classes and serve a year's probation. Hoover's license also was suspended for a year. He pleaded guilty in October to a misdemeanor charge of having a marijuana metabolite in his system at the time his car struck the girls May 7. Police have said 6-year-old Shianna Aston and 4-year-old Shayla Aston were crossing a street on their way to a friend's house. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
