Tracking Stimulus Dollars

By Scott Sarvay

June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 20, 2009 at 5:27 PM EST WASHINGTON (Indiana's NewsCenter) - It's a question of accountability according to Third District Indiana Congressman Mark Souder when asked about the number of jobs retained or created with federal stimulus dollars. The report by the Government Accountability Office calls into question the Obama administration's claim that the stimulus effort saved or created 640,000 jobs. The administration's recovery.gov website also shows hundreds of millions of stimulus dollars were spent in nonexistent congressional districts. Souder says, “What do we pay 20 million dollars, for these people to do, in tracking if they can't figure out, where the congressional districts are. It's unbelievable, I don't know how you can say, ...I've been on the house on the oversight committee, since I was elected, this is such gross incompetence.” Officials with the Obama administration promise to fix the error.
