Mark Souder Lights Broadway Christmas Tree

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A 35 foot blue spruce is twinkling in a downtown neighborhood as "Christmas on Broadway" officially begins.

Souder arrived at Broadway Plaza Friday evening to a crowd of nearly 700 eagerly awaiting the lighting of this year's Christmas tree.

"I remember the old days of downtown Fort Wayne from the time I was a little kid taking pictures with Santa Clause so it's a really fun thing," explained Souder shortly before flipping the switch.

More than 10,000 lights adorn the spruce which serves as the holiday centerpiece for downtown's Broadway Corridor.

The lighting ceremony comes just five days before the famous reindeer display and Christmas wreath are lit downtown.
