Girl Suffering From Exposure To Methamphetamine

June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 23, 2009 at 10:22 AM EST LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 6-year-old girl who was living in a LaPorte home where her parents allegedly cooked methamphetamine is suffering from exposure to the concoction's deadly vapors. Court records show the girl is suffering from a medical condition called "meth mouth" caused by breathing vapors from the chemicals used in the manufacture of meth. Symptoms of the condition include sores and rotting teeth. Records also show the child tested positive for meth after she was taken to a hospital. The girls' 45-year-old parents, Debra Benedict Baxter and Phillip Dalton, were being held in the LaPorte County Jail on $3,500 cash bond Sunday. They're charged with dealing in methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
