VINCENNES, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - One person is dead after a fire at a motel in Vincennes, Indiana.
Firefighters had to rescue several people from the Quality Inn on the city's north side.
The fire broke out around 2:30 Monday morning.
By the time firefighters arrived, there was thick smoke surrounding the building.
Two people had to be sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
A police officer injured his hand.
One room at the motel was completely gutted while some adjacent rooms suffered heavy smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
