Holiday Travel Tips And Information

By Laura Donaldson

June 18, 2010 Updated Nov 23, 2009 at 6:36 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Despite a troubled economy, millions of Americans are expected to travel this holiday weekend. Officials with AAA say 38.4 million Americans are expected to travel this weekend, traveling 50 miles or more. That's a 1.4 percent increase from last year. The Auto Club estimates 33 million of those holiday travelers are expected to use the roadways. Also increasing this year, the price you will pay at the pump. Expect gas prices are between $2.36 and $2.69 in Indiana. You’ll also see more officers on the roads looking for dangerous and intoxicated motorists. “The Indiana State Police, as we do everyday of the year, we remind you to not drink and drive, always wear your seat belt, and adjust your speed and adjust your travel time accordingly,” Sgt. Ron Galaviz with the Indiana State Police said. “Plan your travel, and let someone know not only where you're going but also how you plan on getting there.” Galaviz says 15 people were killed in auto accidents during this time last year and the state police will be out enforcing the law to try and lower that number. Officials with Fort Wayne’s International Airport say they expect crowds on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, and Sunday to be similar to last year. That means you can expect long security lines. Stay up to date with Pinpoint Vipir HD to find out how the weather will affect your holiday travel plans.
