BRIDGETON, Ind. (AP) - Residents of a western Indiana town say they're outraged that vandals stole an 8-foot-tall wreath that had adorned the side of the town's covered bridge.
The theft of the wreath from the Bridgeton Covered Bridge was discovered Tuesday morning, and it came only days before the community's Country Christmas event that starts this weekend.
Historic Bridgeton Mill owner Mike Roe says there's a lot of anger about the theft, which also damaged the bridge's siding when the vandals removed boards to reach the decoration.
The vandalism is the latest attack on the bridge about 15 miles northeast of Terre Haute.
The original Bridgeton Covered Bridge was built in 1868, but it was destroyed by an arsonist in 2005. The town's residents and volunteers rebuilt the span the following year.
