Longer Suspension Sought for Central Indiana Doctor

MIDDLETOWN, Ind. (AP) - State authorities are seeking to continue the medical license suspension for a central Indiana doctor who has been linked to the overdose deaths of nine patients.

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board last month approved an emergency 90-day suspension for Dr. Phillip Foley of Middletown after the state attorney general's office said he recklessly prescribed painkillers and sedatives.

Foley has defended his practice, saying he always made sure his patients had legitimate problems before prescribing medications.

The licensing board is to consider Foley's case during a hearing Thursday in Indianapolis.
