Notre Dame Fires Weis

(Indiana's NewsCenter) - According to multiple sources Charlie Weis has been fired after five seasons as the head football coach at Notre Dame. According to ESPN a member of the Irish coaching staff says Weis and his staff were informed of the decision late Monday afternoon. Upon arrival in South Bend, Weis raised Irish expectations with back-to-back appearances in BCS games in his first two seasons. Since then, one of the nation's most storied football programs has gone 16-21. Weis, who has six years left on his contract, was 35-27 in South Bend. His 565-winning percentage is worse than the 583-marks that got his two predecessors, Tyrone Willingham and Bob Davie, fired. Notre Dame players have scheduled a mid-afternoon players meeting that will include a vote on whether they want to play in a bowl game after a 6-6 season. A decision on an interim head coach, if the players do choose to go to a bowl game, has not been announced. A 6 p.m. news conference has been announced regarding coach Weis.
