Seasonal Work, Clearing Snow and Ice

By Scott Sarvay

June 18, 2010 Updated Dec 7, 2009 at 12:24 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Monday’s snow signaled the beginning of the private snow removal industry. Snow shovels, salt dispensers and snowplows hit the road after the snow came on quickly. This was the first time this season they've had to ply their trade. And they were fighting their way through slow traffic and slick driving conditions, just like the rest of us. Jim Logue of Logue Enterprises says, “It's snow. The snow is hitting the cold pavement and as the tires go over it, it packs it to the pavement and just kind of turns it into a glaze. It's snow, packed down and turning to ice, I guess that's what you'd call it.” Many of these businesses are landscapers and lawn care companies when the weather is warm. So this becomes a way to make a buck during their traditionally slow period.
