Unexpected Snowfall Leaves Students Waiting At The Bus Stop

By John W. Davis

June 18, 2010 Updated Dec 7, 2009 at 6:22 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – The slippery roads caused numerous delays for motorists but not a single school delay in the area. That decision left many parents befuddled and with one question… why? Indiana's NewsCenter received numerous calls and an overflow of emails Monday morning. So we took parents question to local school districts would all agree, it was a day of circumstance. Around 5:30 a.m., School officials gave the ok for bus drivers to begin another week of driving students to school. But moments before 6:00 a.m., the skies opened up and the snow began to fall down. School administrators say by 6:00 a.m. buses were on the roads and it was too late to announce delays. All bus drivers could do was slow down, drive and make sure students made it to school safely. Fort Wayne Community School officials want to remind the public that parents do have options. They can keep their child at home and the absence will be excused because of the weather. Fort Wayne Community Schools also has a link on the homepage of their website where parents can track current bus schedules so they can see if their child’s bus is running on time.
