INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A gaming study committee report was released Monday at the statehouse and committee members say it pretty much closes the door on the possibility of a casino in the Summit City. But the report is being read differently by Mayor Tom Henry.
The study committee indicated that Gary could move one of it's riverboats to a land-based location, reducing the chance that a license would be relocated to Fort Wayne or another city.
Committee Co-Chairman Senator Luke Kenley tells our partners in news the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that the report should be seen as a discouragement to Fort Wayne and other cities interested in pursing casino gambling efforts.
However, Mayor Henry released a statement moments ago saying the report is good news for Fort Wayne.
Highlighting economic potential in the Fort Wayne market and supporting the idea of a referendum on gaming issues.
Mayor Henry intends to continue to lobby legislators for a casino in the Summit City.
