LAGRANGE, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana man has pleaded guilty to reckless homicide charges in the fatal shootings of two men during what police called a dispute over drugs.
Cory A. Waltmire was initially charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter. The 25-year-old LaGrange man pleaded guilty Dec. 4 in LaGrange Superior Court to two lesser reckless homicide charges.
Prosecutors say Waltmire fatally shot 24-year-old Shaun Zimmerman of Angola and 26-year-old Jason Smith of Fort Wayne in his home about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne in May.
Shortly after the killings inside his home, Waltmire went to a police officer's nearby home and said he shot the men after they beat him following a dispute over marijuana.
Waltmire could face up to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced in early January.
