DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – The DeKalb County Prosecutor charged Ronnie Jones Monday with murdering his ex-girlfriend, Melissa Patrick, and attempted murder for trying to his ex-wife Sarah Grimm and her boyfriend, Jason Patrick, who was the estranged husband of Melissa Patrick.
The four felonies that 39 year old Ronnie Jones were charged with could land him in jail for up to 173 years.
According to court documents, Jones had an argument with his girlfriend, 32 year old Melissa Patrick which ended with him shooting her in the chest and the face with an automatic handgun Friday, January 1 at an Auburn group home.
Police say Jones then drove to a home 3 miles away in Waterloo to kill his ex-wife, Sarah Grimm, and her boyfriend, Jason Patrick, who was in the process of getting a divorce from Melissa Patrick.
Detectives revealed Jones fired three shots into Grimm’s front door before he was shot in thigh with a shotgun by his ex-wife’s boyfriend, Jason Patrick.
Jones then got back into his Jeep and drove the SUV through the front door.
Sarah Grimm, Jason Patrick, and six children inside the home escaped without injury.
Jones was arrested a few moments later by Waterloo Police.
“It’s pretty crazy when its people you know and seem nice and all of a sudden its a big deal, murder is involved and you would have never expected the people to be involved that where,” said neighbor Grayson Hart.
When Superior Court Judge Kevin Wallace asked Jones about the possibility of setting bail, Jones changed the subject and responded “I wasn’t going to the house to shoot Sarah, I was going to shoot Jason,” said Ronnie Jones, a 39 year old man charged with four felonies.
At this time, Ronnie Jones is being held without bail until his next pre-trial hearing on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 1:15 p.m.
Jones will have a final pre-trial conference at 9 a.m. on May 7, 2010.
Jones’ final trial is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday June 22, 2010 and could last until Friday, June 26, 2010.
