FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – Indiana’s NewsCenter helped a Haitian man in Fort Wayne reunite with his 5-year-old daughter and his two sisters in Haiti via Skype late Sunday afternoon.
32-year-old Denel Eldime has been in Fort Wayne, Indiana since October 27th, 2009 to receive special medical care after he was blinded during a 2008 drive-by shooting in Haiti.
Denel had received word his daughter survived last Tuesday’s earthquake but he didn’t want to believe it until he heard young Dafleen’s voice.
“Bonjour, papa,” said Dafleen via Skype’s video chat service.
Denel, who had already prepared himself with a box of tissue, replied with tears of joy.
Meanwhile, Indiana’s NewsCenter has also video chatted twice with Melanie Wright, a Fort Wayne native and current missionary at God’s Littlest Angels orphanage outside of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
Call it luck or a greater power but two of Denel’s sisters are employed as caregivers at that same orphanage and had recently brought young Dafleen there.
Denel hopes to return to Haiti for an in-person reunion at the end of April when his medical visa expires.
