Post-Labor Day School Start Date Passes Indiana Senate

By Scott Sarvay

June 18, 2010 Updated Feb 2, 2010 at 5:29 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) - On a 31- 19 vote the Indiana Senate has passed a bill preventing most schools from starting classes before Labor Day. The bill now heads to the House for consideration. Supporters of the bill state that starting classes after Labor Day would give families more summer vacation time as well as reducing the cooling cost of classrooms in August. Opponents believe the school session should be left up to the individual school districts.
