FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A former IU basketball standout appeared in an Allen County courtroom Tuesday morning.

39-year-old Todd Leary pleaded "not guilty" to 17-felony counts related to a real estate title scheme.

Leary played for Bob Knight from 1990 to '94.

The charges against him include corrupt business influence, theft, and conspiracy charges.

He's accused of blackmailing former Title Insurance Broker, Joseph Garretson, for close to a-million dollars to keep quiet about fraudulent "mortgage re-financing transactions."

Leary's attorney filed for a special prosecutor in the case, since an Allen County Prosecutor was one of Garretson's victim's.

Leary is out on bail -- his next court appearance will be February 26th, for a hearing about appointing a special prosecutor.
