FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Proponents for high-speed rail coming to Fort Wayne say state legislators need to make funding for the concept a priority in 2011.
Indiana was largely left on the outside looking in when the Obama Administration announced in January where federal stimulus dollars were going to launch high-speed rail in the country.
The Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association believes state lawmakers are key to avoiding a repeat of that scenario.
High-Speed Rail Advocate Geoff Paddock says, “We need to make some tough decisions in this state. We need to make sure that we can designate some funding, as other states are doing around the country, so when the next round of federal funds come forward, Indiana can come forward with a match and we can be successful in retrieving some of this money.”
Paddock says his group will urge INDOT to apply for "phase two" federal funding for high speed rail.
