June 18, 2010 Updated Feb 23, 2010 at 4:35 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Their voices have been heard across the Hoosier State and now the world will hear the Voices of Unity Youth Choir. The 10 year old choir has been selected to compete in the 2010 World Choir Games in the Chinese cities of Shaoxing and Shanghai. "I was absolutely elated. I couldn't stop crying I was so thrilled. It's, I don't even know how to describe how excited I am!," exclaimed choir member Stacia Lewis. Voices of Unity is one of four choirs from the United States, and the only one from Indiana selected to compete against 400 other groups from 90 countries. When event organizers heard the choir for the first time, they couldn't believe their ears. "We were impressed from the word go. Their enthusiasm, their professionalism, their excitement and a passion for what they do was stellar. So we knew we really wanted to hone in and get to know them," said organizer Scott Moening. The group will train for the next five months before they depart for China in July. Not only will they compete, but they will participate in the closing ceremonies. The group is awaiting permission from the Chinese government to sing "America the Beautiful." The group needs to raise $500,000 to pay for trip, but founder Marshall White says $1 million is needed to take care of "other opportunities" that will come their way after the international performance. In addition to group fundraising efforts, the choir is looking for corporate sponsorships and individual donors. If you'd like to donate, visit the choir's website at www.upaf.com.
